Dr. Gina Green‑Harris is director of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute Regional Milwaukee Office, director of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s Center for Community Engagement and Health Partnerships in Milwaukee, and co-director of the Just Research program at UW School of Medicine and Public Health. A nationally recognized leader in community engagement and recruitment science, she has pioneered methods of building effective, community‑driven approaches to health research participation and retention.
Dr. Green‑Harris joined WAI in 2008 to develop a pilot community engagement initiative, which she later expanded into the WAI Regional Milwaukee Office in 2010 and also formed the WAI Milwaukee Community Advisory Board, one of the first community boards of its kind in the United States. Her leadership built the foundation for community engagement within the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention (WRAP) study and established models for effective, community‑based participatory research that are now recognized across the country. She has received numerous honors for her contributions, including the UW–Madison Outstanding Woman of Color Award and selection as chair of the Governor’s Health Equity Council for the state of Wisconsin.
Dr. Green‑Harris holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Investigation from University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. She previously obtained a Master of Business Administration from Franklin University and a Bachelor of Science from Central State University.
Research Interests
Dr. Green-Harris’ research focuses on building and maintaining community advisory boards for research programs, using an asset-based approach to community engaged research recruitment and retention, and integrating the strength of community with research ideas of investigators; all with the goal of developing more successful health research programs.
