Members of The Amazing Grace Chorus® have a busy holiday season, with rehearsals and live streamed sing-alongs scheduled several times a month in November and December. The chorus is a program run by the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute Regional Milwaukee Office, bringing together people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and family members with resources and support.
A recent news segment featured footage of a chorus rehearsal and interviews with members and the program director, Stephanie Houston. As Houston explained in the interview, the chorus provides vital socialization and connection to the program members.
“Isolation is a causation of memory loss,” she said. “So when people are coming together and participating in this chorus we are actually delaying progression of disease when it comes to Alzheimer’s and dementia and that’s so critical.”
