As part of the Wisconsin Dementia Resource Network’s (WDRN) goal to highlight best practices for creating dementia friendly communities in Wisconsin, WAI collaborates with statewide partners to author best practice guides for distribution to any and all who are interested.
The process for developing each guide involves content experts being interviewed to understand the key elements of the practice, and based upon these interviews, guidelines are suggested for implementing the practice. Since WAI strives to assure the guides address programs and ideas from across the entire state, content experts represent the unique qualities of a variety of Wisconsin communities: rural, urban, and suburban.
Four best practice guides have been completed to date:
- Dementia Friendly Libraries in Wisconsin: A Best Practice Guide, 2017.
- Wisconsin Memory Café Programs: A Best Practice Guide (authored by Susan McFadden, PhD), 2016 and updated in 2017.
- Dementia Coalitions in Wisconsin: A Best Practice Guide, 2018.
- Dementia Friends in Wisconsin: A Guide to Getting Started, 2019.
